Harpa wins the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award 2013

Harpa, the Reykjavik Concert Hall and ConferenceCentre in Iceland, is the winner of the 2013 European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture. Mies van der Rohe Award, the European Commission and the Mies van derRohe Foundation announced today. Designed by Henning Larsen Architects, Batteríið Architects and Studio Olafur Eliasson, the building has helped to transform and revitalise Reykjavik harbour and brought the city and harbour district closer together. The 'EmergingArchitect Special Mention' award goes to María Langarita and Víctor Navarro for the Navede Música Matadero (Red Bull Music Academy) in Madrid, Spain.The award ceremony willtake place on 7 June at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona, coinciding with thecelebration of the 25th anniversary of the prize. Starptautiskā konkursa „The Baltic Brick and Roof Award 2013” – labākās ķieģeļu celtnes Baltijas valstīs uzvarētājus - organizators „Wienerberger” AS paziņoja 2013.gada marta sākumā. Diemžēl, no rudenī 32 iesniegtajiem objektiem tikai viens priekšlikums bija no Latvijas – uzņēmuma „Samrode” biroja ēka Zvanu ielā 2, Ventspilī. Objekts iizpelnījās žūrijas speciālbalvu, kuru pasniedza arhitektei Inārai Kārkliņai (arhitektūras birojs „Forma” +„Krists Karklins Design”).
Rem Koolhaas appointed Director of the Architecture section

The Board of Directors of la Biennale di Venezia, chaired by Paolo Baratta, met today in the headquarters of Ca’ Giustinian and, after thanking and expressing its gratitude to David Chipperfield for the excellent results of the 13th International Architecture Exhibition, appointed Rem Koolhaas Director of the Architecture section, with the specific responsibility of curating the 14th International Architecture Exhibition to be held in 2014.

"Catalog of architecture exhibitions" with precise description of themes and objects to be exhibited has been developed as a pilot-project of the Architecture information center, which is supported by VKKF. The exposition is ready to be exhibited and the organizational issues are to be solved in collaboration with curators. More here.
