Plot site is located in Dobele's city center between Upes and Zaļā streets. In the plot site already exsisted nursery school “Spodriba” and now is aded new nursery school block and service building, in which is designed kitchen and laundry. In new nursery school block place will find 120 children. In two storey volume are placed children bedrooms and play areas and as well staff rooms, but in one-storied volume is placed hall for daily activities and also for celebrations. Facades are designed like colorfull and exciting game.

Biathlon is one of the most popular and interesting winter sport in the world. Tens of thousands of spectators attend the world cup competitions and the world championship every year and millions of people watch them in a television and internet. Thereby the country where the championship is held gets recognition around the world as well as increases the number of tourists and a development potential of the local area. Unfortunately there isn’t an appropriate sports complex to organize the top-level competitions in Latvia. The basis of the project is the existing biathlon sports center in Priekuli that is unique in Latvia because of the world class biathlon racetracks and shooting range. The aim of the project is to design a new highest rank sports complex thus gaining the license to organize the biathlon world championship. The concept of the project is to create a pedestrian bridge between Priekuļi and the biathlon stadium to allow the movement of the large number of spectators during the world championship and to make the sports complex more accessible to the local people. One of the most important aspects how to ensure an optimal usage of the sports complex throughout the year is to make it as varied as possible. Therefore a full development strategy is developed that includes a large territory to be able to organize different top-level international competitions and events. The best year-round training conditions for sportsmen of different fields are created thereby an invaluable contribution in growth of the new generation of young athletes is given and a high-quality tourism product is also provided to promote a healthy and active lifestyle.

Tank production factory hall and a four storey administrative building have been reconstructed in to a warehouse and office facilities.An extension has been made increasing the space with a newly created volume, while restoring the historic building setback line of the district at the same time.The functional and visual backbone of the building - a covered, two storey courtyard has been created between the extension and the renovated part.The interior design and the facades are created as a game - a play between various plasters, textures and reflections from different surfaces.

The design concept of the building was affected by the small size of the building area. The volume of the house is made by two seperate parts that interlocks in the middle.Each of the two storeys are distributed into two levels.The ground floor consists of the entrance area, bathroom, kitchen, dining and living rooms with technical rooms in the lower level, whilst the bedrooms are situated in between the first and the second floors with an entrance via staircase.The 1st floor contains two bedrooms and a staircase hall, with an office in the higher level. There is a bathroom next to each of the bedrooms.

Basic idea behind the design was to achieve an open, confluent and lucid space. Furniture has been arranged in dependence to the beautiful views of Pārdaugava and the harbor.Entrance hall, living and dining rooms, the office and the kitchen creates one connected room, while the bedrooms and the adjoining bathrooms are collared.Glass is used in the finishing, as well as a decorative painting on the walls, Italian marble in plaques and mosaic, massive-wood African oak wide-plank flooring and artificial lighting with many variation possibilities.

The design of the pavilion is a result of a two-stage architectural design competition and many discussions at several architectural boards. As a result of those discussions, the pavilion gained its transparency which is complimented with the initial idea of the bio-geometric “pile of leaves” over a “flower bed”. Because of its contradictory location – one of the central parks of the city, the pavilion is a compromise between a practical building and a sculptural element in a historical park.

SAB „Varul” is situated in the Riga downtown, within the Art Nouveau 1913 year building – one of the first in the city in the erection of which the monolithic ferroconcrete frame construction was used. The particular bureau premises in recent years have experienced several tenents and, consequently, respective alterations, therefore there are just few original components retained.
In contrast to the entrance doors rich in woodcarvings, the new bureau interior displays a minimalism trend. The lawyers’ profession requires a high degree acoustic insulation, as well as visitors’ premises strictly separated from those of the staff. Therefore, the middle compass, serving as a dividing element including several technical trunks and auxiliary premises, is accomplished in dark woodden panelling. As to the tonal appearance, the interior is kept in almost black-and white, intensively complemented by maroon shield parquet flooring and separate red furniture accents, but in the long run – some large size paintings.

The facade of the RTU’s Faculty of Chemistry has been created in accordance with the build up of the surrounding park - the horizontally continuous window lines optically reduces the height of the building, while the intended color variation reduces the scale of the building.The entrance façade emphasizes the importance of the expanded lobby, with typical symbols used in chemistry serving as the basis of creating an artistic image, such as the signs from Mendeleev’s Periodic Table, letters and numbers, which in their mutual combinations form ornaments and color typesetting

Shaping of the museum image was defined by the character of the collection, original layout and end of C19 finish. When analyzing historical layout one may see, that it is extremely suitable for the museum function: ground floor Grand Hall for changeable expositions, second floor gallery for Eastern Art permanent exposition. Higher up on the representative floor there is a china gallery, in both halls – West European painting collection. The previous household inner yard covered with the glass dome became the impressive vestibule in the middle of the building.Entrance from the Dome square and M.Pils Street together with the communicating vestibule form a sort of a museum passage. Two new lifts were built in for the convenience of clients and staff.Staff offices, a small conference hall, rooms for adult and children education, museum boutique and cafe are conveniently located in the building opposite M.Pils Street the same as it was at the stock-exchange period. Place for a museum restaurant is reserved in the cellar, in the previous Friedrich Schaar and Johann Rudolf Caviezel wine warehouse. Here in the beginning of C20 there already was a shop and restaurant. Wardrobe and sanitary premises are also located in the basement.Materials used in the basement wardrobe and WC are glass and metal, taking into consideration that they are not to be dominant. Museum china gallery and West European painting permanent expositions are arranged on the most splendid floor of the building. Bespoke show-cases and stands were drawn and manufactured for them. Eastern Art gallery show-cases were produced according analogues on situ.After removal of later finishes initial finish became visible in most premises– varied wall paintings, floor tiles.In future museum building simultaneously with complicated restoration works other complex construction works were carried out: securing of foundations, ground level reducing and arranging of hydro insulation in the cellar, prosthetics of load bearing construction or replacement with analogue materials. HVAC, water supply and drainage, electricity and low-voltage (sounding, security, access control, TV/SAT systems and many others), automatic fire extinguishing system, control and automation, electric distribution were built anew, heating unit was reconstructed.All possible for the building on restoration fire-fighting measures were accomplished.

Dzīvojamās mājas rekonstrukcija Salacgrīvas novadā / Reconstruction of Residential Building in Liepupe Rural District

According to the project, the existing residence is inserted in a forest next to the Riga’s Bay and was built in the year 1978.The reconstruction is going to be designed according to nowadays needs, preserving its values –the original volume- respecting the surrounding environment and maintaining its architectural principles. The elevation facing the Bay of Riga is going to be maintained maximally opened and with glass while the other elevations are going to be mostly closed – only the needed openings- with vertical wood board finishes.In the landscaping, some of the brick walkways will be preserved and a new parking area with driveways that do not invade the surrounding forests and vegetation is created.

Medību nams / Hunting house in Valdemārpils Rural Territory

The functional purpose of the one-storey building at the rural territory of Valdemārpils is recreation in between the hunt that takes place for several days. It is located at a rural property, which incorporates private forest territory, lake and several free-standing buildings for staying overnight. Searching for the harmony with landscape, climate and nature, the building is formed to continue the regional traditions of architecture by interpreting them up to date. The uniform rhythm of the bearing columns continue the principles of classical tectonics that are highlighted also by the joint reinforced concrete lintel. The base plate slightly elevated above the ground level is emphasized by forming it as a console, which stresses even more the reference of the building to the basic elements of the order architecture, to which also the closed outer space at the north-west part of the building belongs.The monumental roof characteristic to the rural landscape of Latvia with typically massive overhangs is finished with specially shaded shingles, providing the presence of the common silvery gray shade already at the completion stage of the building. Also the wooden constructions of the roof support are shaded grey and exposed by achieving rhythmical partition of the indoor ceiling. Traditionally the total building volume composition of a rural landscape of Latvia is formed of a minimum of elements – the long horizontal roof is interrupted by only two vertical accents – the up to date interpreted entrance motive and the especially massive chimney.Also the inner space visually aims towards a monolith and clear unity, and continuity of volume. This feeling is supported by the construction details of the interior and the furniture – the massive cast iron profile of the fireplace mouth that reaches two meters high, the heavy closet, which separates the kitchen from the living room, and the concrete floor which is similar to clay floor.Renewables – wood used in the construction and panelling, as well as the re-used bricks in the finishing prove that this building belongs to the “green” way of thinking.

The aim of the proposal for the competition was to create a new type of kindergarten, where children could easily integrate between themselves, with the urban environment and the society.The project resulted in a public building with a three-dimensional park integrated with the urban structure – to become a part of the city public space and greenery system of the future Riga development plan.Common spaces like a swimming pool, a sports hall, an assembly hall and a canteen are organized around the inner courtyard and enclosed by a glazed facade facing the outdoor space that could be opened expanding towards the courtyard. The communicating spaces between common rooms can be used for various activities.The courtyard park is organized in different levels of learning and entertaining activities. The volumes for each age-group are designed to be personalized and different, ensuring the proper recognition and the convenient orientation of each child.The 3d-park bends over the building connecting the courtyard with the urban public space –the inner life with the city public space. Children can be put together or separated according to the needs. The project developed and implemented the European Regional Development Fund-supported program in achieving the objectives: building internal renovation and reconstruction of infrastructure, which is fully provided for state-funded health care services. The project of the rehabilitation center has been done on the 4th floor of Ligatne Rehabilitation center. There are 16 patient rooms, which are suitable for disabled people. Rooms are provided with shower, toilet and sink.Reconstructed unit is equiped with all necessary medical treatment.Almost all engineering systems are reconstructed. Patient room / cabinet door opening width of 1.2 m up, bathroom cabinet and door opening width of 1.1 m in order to be able to move the wheelchair and the patient placed in the functional bed. Corridor wall and entrance corner protected by a special protective elements of 1.30 m height. There is adequate room lighting, which is in acordance with existing norms. Oxygen equipment for each ward, procedure room, functional diagnostics.Medical staff call alarms for each patient from bed and call control information for doctors / nurses office, telephone and computer networks for doctors, nurses, a procedure room, speech therapy and functional diagnostics.There was significant deviation from the norm LBN requirements of the building in the constructive and technical situation. Hallway of the building floor is 1600 mm wide, and accordance with the corridor design standards should be 1800 mm. The existing structure does not permit full extension of the passageway. 4th floor corridor created a solution where the hallway there are three possible sites created and built the extension of the pocket on the corridor and in addition to the second light.The reconstructed Rehabilitation unit is equipped with the following accessibility features:-all access points are ramped-all public and circulation spaces are equipped with wall-mounted hand rails and wood pannelling-all levels of the school have handicap accessible restrooms-floor finishes include functional accents highling entrances, nurse posts, reception desk, as well as other important features and services within the unit-all levels of the new buildings of rehabilitation center are vertically accessible by specification elevator

The school building was built 40 years ago, the main problem - buildings low energy efficiency. Our set goal for the project - not only to solve technical issues in thermal insulation, but also substantially "refresh" the buildings architecture, creating a bright, colorful building - colorful childhood memories for kids. The project provided facades, foundation, roof and basement ceiling insulation. Insulation used on the facades are two types - ventilated and plastered facade, replacement of windows, which are carried away in the insulation area.

Saulkrasti is a resort town on the seaside of the Gulf of Riga, and 30 min drive from the Riga city centre. The site is an aminence itself and is only 2 min walk from the beach.
The client was planning to reconstruct the summer house built by his father in the mid 70`s. The alteration asked for a well-insulated house where father- pensioner would live throughout the year, and the young generation would move into for summer periods. Technically being a reconstruction, the overground part of the house was rebuilt completely.
As design starting point it had been decided to keep the existing garage retaining walls as an emotional connecting element between the old and the new. The new house design is a contemporary interpretation of regional functionalism that is expressed in form, plan and finishing. An accent on energy efficienvy of the ingineering solutions was made during the construction. The high attention was paid to building context and
finishing details. According to the client request the house is made so that its smaller area is used all year round, while the house is fully inhabited only during the summer season. The room clusters and engineering services are designed accordingly. Engineering systems are provided for energy-saving: geothermal pump and mechanical ventilation system with recuperator. The building envelope is well-insulated and sealed, as well
as triple glazed windows are installed. The building`s geographical orientation doens not allow for overheating or overcooling of spaces. The inner spaces` zoning is divided into three parts around the common central south-facing cortyard.

The perimetrial building is accomplished with the market building. The architectural –spatial solution is developed in such a manner that the overhangs cover each other in various levels thereby creating sense of market pavilion and covering all territory of the market to the utmost. Stalls and overhangs foreseen within the framework of the project will be made out of wooden constructions – with vertical cladding of stavs in manner of “trīnītis” (double cladding of stavs) characteristic for Kurzeme. The roofs are covered with wooden shingles. The central overhang/pavilion of the market will be open – the height is increased on the basis of wooden colons and there will be counters.

To an existing two-story building in the result of reconstruction the new five-storey healing block was built additionally. The area appears with high elevation, so the natural slope is used in maximum, in which was built the menage floor. Architecture is concise, respecting the Contractors limited funds, while the new block trimmings are adapted to the existing recently renovated block, white and green colors and wide glazing allows to merge with the surrounding pine forest and harmonizes patients' mood. Loop hallways which are loaned from the German hospital practice facilitates patient care.

The building is planned for 300 children their studies. It is 2-storey building and for both storeys is united with central atrium. Architectonic solution is modern, as well as qualitative, life-long-finishing materials and solutions are used. Main finishing materials used: finishing bricks (production unit “Lode”), finishing plates FUNDERMAX with imitation of wood texture, artificial stone texture, glazed surfaces. The main entrance in the facade facing the street will be accented with glazed surface in the height of two storeys.

The size of the building is like a retelling of previous architecture with the methods of modern architecture. The new construction volume is solved by using suspended panels in the facades, as well as glass facades, at the same time maintaining the scale and character of Mucinieku Street. The division of the facade shows the size of previous building and newly constructed gable – mezzanine. The building is designed in three storeys: basements and two over ground storeys. The structure of the building is made out of metal constructions and monolith reinforced concrete.

During the reconstruction of the park new elements presenting initial period of the castle had to be created, namely, regarding the period from the 13th century until the 18th century when the Livonian Order Castle was built and experienced upsurge and decline, as well as regarding the period the Duke Jacob lived there, and not less important, regarding the period the park was developed and used, namely from the end of 19th century and until the second half of the 20th century. In order to reach the aims set, the concept of the park reconstruction was developed in the manner to:provide references to the existence of the castle by taking into account the fact that the former castello type building was located exactly in the central part of the current park;use improvement elements with references to the end of 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century;improve placement of sculptures, light distribution, as well as reach more natural bond in connection to the overall concept of the park.

Task: to rebuild the former church complex by retaining three cultural layers – synagogue, cinema in soviet times, library and art center.Carried out works: interior has been replanned for the use of new functions, renewd facades, facilitaed surroundindings.The complex of jewish churches has been built in 1875. The synangogue has been changed for use of library but the praying house for culture events. The facade of the building has been renewd according to old historic pictures but these parts that had been lost and there is no historic eveidence found have been renewed according to analogues characteristic to that time. Interior of the art centre has been decorated by renewed historic wall paintings.

The complex of Kuldiga New Town hall is located in the urban conservancy area of Kuldiga historical city centre, and archeological site of Kuldiga ancient town. Reconstruction includes New Town hall (built at 1860, architect O. Dice), the brick building of Fire Depot is reconstructed for the office use, and the auxiliary buildings – wooden shed at the bank of Aleksupite river, and small brick building. The most important value is reconstruction of Town hall interiors.

The development of historical railway and landscape includes the extension of existing railway line, from Seaside to Attraction Park in Ventspils, all together 2.6km; the reconstruction copies of historical railway buildings: Mazirbe Station, Aizpute Depot, auxiliary buildings – shelter for carriages, ticket box, coal box and overall landscaping; scaffold bridge and middle stop in forest; and end stop as copy of historical Plava station. The landscape now creates a lively and poetic presence of historical Kurzeme railway in Ventspils city.

This is a unique piece of land – its location, large pine trees and unspoiled vegetation is unique. From the sea side a steep dune encircles the land and shelter the house fromwind. The Dune shapes naturalshield for the house which opens towards East, South and West – making possible to form a sunny courtyard.Half of the land is occupied by a pine forest, mints and spatial undergrowth.- This part remains intact and creates a feeling of living in the woods.The desire not to compete and not to interfere in natural landscape was the main starting points for creating the architecture for this site and established the following guidelines:house in the woodsdune as a “spine” of the homeinclusion in the reliefflattening to the groundliving in horizontal space.Keeping the natural relief is important aspect in creation of the building forms.Building’s spatial composion is based on the L-shaped volume. Volume has clear horizontal character – the horizontal living space defines the layout of rooms on one floor.The building is located at the highest part of the territory – on the hill, continiuing plot lines of the terrain, leaving the natural decline in the NW side which creates a sunny courtyard with a terrace. The rest of the land remains forest character – feeling – house near a forest. Commodity philosophy – not to destroy the existing and to occupy only a small area around the building – terraces. Next to the terraces – forest.The building have a lot of glazed planes placed one against another – that achieves a transparency of the building and natural landscape into the interior. Sight points are endless lines which continiues to the outdoor space.The Horizontal extent of the building is clear and specific, whereas the exterior gray plates harmoniously fits into the landscape.The feeling in the dream has become a reality.

Holiday home in Kaltene
This space is located in a stark landscape formed by sparse, laconic elements: a sea that is almost always leaden grey, fine beach sand littered with stones, and an expanse reaching both into the sea and upward, into the sky. As a home, the structure was conceived as a convergence of these same elements. It is both confined enough to provide a refined, unobtrusive environment an urbanite would feel comfortable in, but expansive enough to give ample space for what one so often turns to the sea for: free, and uninterrupted contemplation. Just as in the surrounding environment, the essence of this space is inseparable from the materials it is made of. It is brought into union with the surrounding landscape by its technologically-advanced but unsentimental use of simple, natural materials: stone, wood, concrete, and metal. A genuine character and authenticity is augmented by original stone and mortar walls integrated in the building's living area. In context, the building's two main facades reflect the two prominent dimensions of the sea. Between them lies a sheltered space for purposeful reflection.

ArchitectureThe plot is located between Lubana lake and Kvapanu ponds, in a wild, scenic place, which ischaracterized by its vastness and a clear linear structure. This is also the fundamental conception ofthe architecture.The new building will be located in line with the buildings to be reconstructed, with the sidelinefaçades facing the road. Thus the object will be easily noticed by the by-passers. The main task is to highlight and complement the landscape.InteriorThe multifunctionally of the building is reflected by the design conception, the separation of space,finishes, the tonal solution.The first component, earth, is reflected in the design by the floor materials and their colour, as well as texture.The second component, water, and its variety in nature, is symbolized by the exterior paint of walls and tile textures, as well as colour solution of the building walls. The wall colours – as white as the reflection of the clouds in the water.The third component, air, is thought to be reflected in the exhibition hall, conference hall and other specifically selected spaces. On white and black walls changing picture will be projected, and these will be complemented by sound effects (wind, the sound of the sunrise, the wingspan of a bird).The space planning allows to combine all three floors in a united space scale with a unitedsoundtrack and common projection images. The multifunctional opportunities of sounds and projected images create a colourful space without the use of additional colours. In this way it is possible to create an alternating mood of the space by using modern technologies.

The warehouse building – a 17-th century architectural monument- appears to be one of the rare Riga Downtown buildings with retained inspiration of initial origin. In the course of time the building has obtained one side inclination, thus enforcing its individuality. Ten years ago the warehouse was provided with an inbuilt frame construction granting its constructive stability. As a result of reconstruction made in the year 2011 the six level building was transformed into a universal space open for the city. The lower floors are fit for art galleries and stores, the next two – special Riga Downtown offices with low ceilings while the Attic floors – two-level apartments with small tile roof terraces. The building can be managed as a functionally unified aggregate.
A transparent elevator and robust, dark stairs are built in the center of the building. The initial stone wall – wooden constructions are kept intact with the characteristic historical overlay. The architecture of the new interior respects historical structure of the building, at the same time being in contrast to it.

The Architects’ Bureau shapes the new version of the Riga City Kalnciema street block garages. The compact volume comprises two levels. The inbuilt gallery – a platform and a massive wooden shelf at the same time serving as stairs and connecting two levels of the trespassing room. The platform exit leads to an extemporaneous terrace, which is the roof of the adjacent house. There are three work places equipped – two on the upper level, one on the lower with a round discussion table. The white five year old furniture, fit for the former office, successfully adapted to the new office as well. The general aesthetics of place and space – functional minimalism. Paintings of R. Koļcovs and exhibition photographs of J. Deinats ensure the present graphical design.

The “Wine Studio” appears to be an interior culture project reorganizing the active Tērbatas and Stabu street corner in Riga. A store, a bar and a restaurant „Wine Studio” is the fourth entity of the enterprise in Latvia with a uniform spatial and aesthetic concept merging functions and demonstrating masculine approach to materials and components. Constructive elements, concrete floors, bar and blackboard are exposed alongside with robust lighting rails design classics and 1PLUS1 design furniture forming multi-layer ambiance with multifunctional application.

Direct Paint Outlet appears to be a new-type paint store where the former commercial shed of another company is transformed into a concept department store and a consulting center. By application of the grey color in the front and interior finish and functional solutions architects have found an approach how to render quality to commercial architecture at the large communication trunk-roads. Behind the dark front, a color and finish material store is equipped with signs of multi-functional cultural center – a broad, attractive entrance, an architectural and design literature library arranged within a shipping container, with glaring graphic identity and navigation signs for better orientation in shelves. The company bureau premises are arranged in mezzanine of the building, places for children and cyclists are equipped in the store, as well. The environment is industrially robust while the function distribution and components confer emotional comfort.

The building characterizes for its two slope elongated silhouette and the adjacent terrace. The design of the structure was based on the inner exposed metal profiles which also support the roof, the concrete slabs and the frames of the facades. Thanks to the policarbonate and glazed windows the interior space reflect the color of the prevailing environmental conditions. A geothermal pump is used for the floor heating system while solar collectors were installed to guarantee the appropriate temperature for hot water.

The building of Municipal Police headquarters was built in 1880-1885 in historicism style. The building is located in Daugavpils historical center and has a status of a historical monument. The scope of works also included renovation of adjoning public garden at the corner of Muzeja and Saules streets. All authentical building elements- windows, doors, shutters and staircases. Changes in premises layout, replacement of roof structures and all engineering utilities were made to match the modern function of the buildng.

One of the most outstanding architectural classicism monuments – 2-storyed building of the former military hospital in Dinaburg fortress was built in 1822-1827 after the design of architect A. E. Shtaubert. It forms a block of buildings with two inner yards. The building has been designed showing respect to the construction principles of the existing housing area „Zolitūde” of the former Soviet time. The facilitated territory for 12-story dwelling house inhabitants is located on the building extension – commercial center roof, designed as an additional territory to be used – an elevated level, linked to the ground level with landscaped slopes.
Further off the dwelling house the building level is elevated and, based on ferro-concrete columns, forms the front entrance of the commercial center.
At present, the 1-st stage of construction object – commercial center with parking places and 1-st and 2-nd floors of the dwelling house –has been completed , as well as the underground car parking under the commercial center for dwelling house inhabitants. The 2-nd stage of the construction – building of the 12-story dwelling house – is planned for the year 2012.

The interior of the apartment is constructed within the newly erected building in the center of Mežaparks, Riga. The main element forming premises and feelings is a transparent wall with an open fire-place, a bookshelf and a wardrobe. The wall transparency facilitates perception of the apartment space in its entirety and directs the daylight towards the remote points. The apartment formation was a process of unification of function, technology and artistic finish, searching for new modernity.

Situation before reconstruction
Real estate consisted of two separate buildings, but the internal planning was unified. Each part was built in different periods of time (beginning of 20th century) so facades and floor levels did not match. To get to the second floor there were built separate wooden staircase outside the building.
Conception of reconstruction
Because of different facades of original buildings I decided to keep this “brother” concept and make the difference even more forming each part with different materials. The original staircase was pulled down and new stairs were moved into a centre of the joint building. Taking into account limited space of inside planning every centimeter was planned as useful and available for the family.
The planning
The first floor is used for salon combined with the kitchen. There is also bathing room and a boiler room in the first floor. The second floor is used for bedrooms. There is a masters’ bedroom in one part of the floor, but in the other part there is two-storey bedroom for children. It was made combining second floor with the attic. As a result we have nice and light mansard room with two levels for children and their own staircase. The difference between two floor levels was solved in the children room by making the platform in upper level that also serves as a bed.In the third floor there is expanded stare area for veranda and roof terrace. From there you can see a nice view of a roof landscape of historical architecture of Pārdaugava.
Territory
There are three historical buildings nearby which makes a “poket” shaped yard. Territory was planned very functionally, but also highlighting intimacy of the historical character of buildings. Most of the greenery and trees were saved, as well as two kind of granite pavement for parking a car. There is a great birch tree growing very near the building, but I decided to save it because it makes the yard very special.

In the International Architectural Plenair of 2003 the jury gave best to the proposal of Danish architect Christian Kold and due to love and generosity of many people, the Parish Center foundation stone was laid on December 9, 2007. At present everyone can watch the angel Gabriel’s message carved on the floor, saying: „As nothing is impossible for the God“ (Gospel according to St. Lucas 1: 37).
The new Parish Center is situated close to the church – on the corner of Indriķa and Torņakalna streets. The one-story building volume is made to be less disturbing for the church perception. The roof of the building is hidden behind a rather high monolith ferroconcrete parapet, thus the horizontal line of the new construction emphasizes the churches vertical and dominating role in the surrounding ambience. The glazed surfaces of the facades of the building are mixed with wooden finish – lubricated larch boards. Composition presents an interesting congruence of tonal and texture planes.
