Latvian Architecture Award 2024 Exhibition on Display in Old Riga

07.11.2024

An open-air exhibition-installation showcasing the finalists of the Latvian Architecture Award 2024 is on display at 11 Torņa Street in Old Riga, directly opposite the Architects' House, until 31 January 2025. Here, residents of Riga and visitors alike are invited to explore this year’s most outstanding architectural works.
The Latvian Architecture Award (LAA) exhibition in the urban environment has become an annual tradition, encouraging broader public dialogue about quality architecture. Like last year, the exhibition is set in Old Riga at 11 Torņa Street, in front of the historic Architects' House, home to the event's organiser, the Latvian Association of Architects.
The open-air exhibition for LAA 2024 features photographs of the 16 finalists’ works, including those of the winners, with brief descriptions and comments from the local selection jury in both Latvian and English. Visitors can gain insight into why these particular works, from a pool of 54 submissions, reached the finals, and compare their own impressions with those of industry professionals. The exhibition also highlights the New European Bauhaus recognition awardee, honoured for the first time at this year’s October ceremony.
The LAA 2024 exhibition illuminates Latvian architectural excellence both figuratively and literally, as it is designed as a light installation visible to passers-by at any time of day. The exhibition will remain on display until 31 January, including during the "Staro Rīga" light festival.
"The section of Torņa Street where the installation is displayed is long, uneven, and sloped. This challenging terrain is creatively addressed in the exhibition’s design with a construction based on tensegrity principles, where a balance of tension and compression provides stability while imparting visual lightness and openness to the installation," explains the exhibition’s concept author, architect Ivars Veinbergs.
The LAA 2024 exhibition is created using standard-size materials, easily disassembled connections, and with minimal material waste, showcasing the designers’ commitment to efficient and sustainable use of resources. Alongside Veinbergs, the concept was realised by Rihards Vītols and Juris Simanovičs, with graphic design by the brand and communication design studio "Associates, Partners et Sons".
