From 2021 to 2026, the National Library of Latvia implemented the ambitious project “2025 / Birkerts 100”, comprising five exhibitions of varying scale, as well as conferences and publications dedicated to the architect’s legacy.
The flagship exhibition, Birkerts. Libraries. Light., explored all 19 libraries designed by Gunnar Birkerts and highlighted his distinctive use of light as an architectural element. The exhibition should be considered together with the centenary publication and exhibition catalogue, Birkerts. Libraries. Light., as together they constitute the central event and defining achievement of the entire “2025 / Birkerts 100” project.
Two of the exhibitions created within this programme were nominated for the Latvian Public Media Award Kilograms of Culture (Kilograms kultūras).
