'dolomite & clay', renovation of a homestead

A family has lived on this restored homestead in Sece Parish for four generations. The restoration of the property began in 2015, ten years ago. The project respects the local landscape and traditional building practices, preserving the characteristic proportions and appearance of Sēlija's vernacular architecture while employing materials deeply rooted in the region's building culture—dolomite and clay. The façades are clad in Daugava dolomite, much of it reclaimed from the original structures on the site, while the remaining stone was carefully sourced from the ruins of nearby buildings.
