The Marupe School of Music and Arts redevelopment aims to preserve a two-storey Soviet era building, while introducing modern design concepts. The historic building, characterised by its complexities - differences in levels, deficiencies in construction quality -, and its assets, including the acoustic quality of the auditorium designed by Andris Zabrauskis - the undulating wooden plank ceiling-, has inspired a four-storey extension. The result offers the school to function with up to 600 pupils in contemporary environment.
