The reconstruction of the Daugava flood protection embankment in Jēkabpils combines flood defence infrastructure with high-quality public space. Implemented in response to the 2023 floods, the project strengthens the city’s resilience while revitalising and enhancing the left-bank Daugava promenade as a recreational and urban environment. Integrated phytoremediation systems and blue-green infrastructure improve the ecological quality of the riverbank. The embankment has been transformed from a technical barrier into a multifunctional interface that reconnects the city with the river Daugava.
