The Rezekne University Faculty of Engineering is the first stage of the university’s development plan to be implemented. It will be followed by the Faculty of Economics, a sports centre, student accommodation and other university infrastructure. The Faculty of Engineering is located on one of the main streets in the city centre, but the land plot includes a chaotic ragtag of 20th century buildings of different scales. The new faculty building has been conceived as a backdrop to the 1927 Teachers’ College designed by the architect Pauls Kundziņš and cordons it off from the surrounding less worthy buildings.
