On the coast of Kurzeme, within the territory of a former Soviet military base, OAD has created SAR Summer Residence. The main house and two guest houses are built on historic bunker foundations, preserving the protected dune habitat and allowing the architecture to merge harmoniously with the surrounding landscape. In SAR, OAD seeks to preserve the site’s primal form and atmosphere, where traditional elements of Kurzeme architecture are interpreted in a contemporary way, while the historical function of the military base gains a new, more human meaning - a shelter for family.
