Magdelēnas kvartāls is situated in the historic centre of Riga, which is included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. As a result, the volumes of the buildings and their visual identity were designed, not attempting things just for the sake of it and avoiding anything that would clash with the surrounding buildings – on the contrary, the architect’s goal since the project’s inception has been to produce classical, elegantly restrained pieces of architecture in modern proportions and with high-value components: large glazed areas, slender window proportions, and custom-crafted roof and balcony elements.
The first phase included the construction of two six-floor buildings housing 116 apartments (including seven live-work concept units that connect the residential area on the first floor to the business premises on the first floor), 73 parking spaces, six garages, three commercial areas, as well as storage and technical spaces on the first floor of each building.
