The reconstruction project of the wooden school house (1819) was initiated by the Europa Nostra foundation in 2000. The purpose of the international project was to draw public attention to preservation of wooden heritage by developing an example project which would embody the unique qualities of Riga’s wooden architecture. The project represents traditional materials and methods of construction as well as contemporary approach to renovation of historical wooden buildings.
